I have just installed Receivables V9.0A service pack. Once completed I got a message saying that \SOFTRAK\RECEIVABLES and \SOFTRAK\SYSTEM have files that are named too long and that receivables won't work until they are renamed. If did not list specific files. What is the maximum lengh of file name so I know what file names to change.

Thanks!
Vicki

Hi Vicki,

Do you use a Novell network? This may prevent files longer than 8 characters to retain their proper names.

Any file that you find that has a ~ in the file name has been truncated. Likely 'receivables.exe' is one of them. Could you post a list of files that have ~ somewhere in the file name to assist in this? You may also require your Adagio consulant to determine what network settings caused this issue in the first place.

Yes, we have a novel server. In the receivables directory the files are:

RECEIV~1 2938KB
RECEIV~2 8605KB

In the System directory the files are:

DATADI~1 420KB
DATADI~2 420KB
DATADI~3 420KB

Your help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Vicki

Hi, Vicky,

The Receiv~1 file should be renamed to ReceivablesDesigner.exe.

The Receiv~2 file should be renamed to Receivables.exe.

However, the 3 files you mention in the Softrak\System folder are more difficult to determine. All 3 relate to the DataDictionaryExporter but, as they are reporting the same size, are difficult to differentiate. None of these 3 files will prevent you from running other Adagio modules though.

I recommend you contact your Adagio consultant and have them review your install for other such files and they can also provide you with the proper DataDictionary Exporter files.

Long filenames have been used for over 10 years now. You might want to contact your network tech and determine what Novell service pack can be installed that will recognize long filenames in order to avoid these types of problems in the future.
