QUESTION ONE:
If I have more than one GL account # referenced in column C how do I choose which Description will print when using the &ADGET statement?

Currently I have:

8220:8221-` =" "&ADGET('gldata.DESC", $C19)
This is printing the GL Description for 8221.

I'd like to print the GL Description for 8220.

QUESTION TWO:
I have the following GL accounts:
8190
8190-1,8190-2,8190-4,8190-5,8190-100

I want to lump all the accounts, EXCEPT 8190-2 on one line and I want to pick the description from account 8190. How do I write that?

Thanks!

Hi Lulu

Your questions raise more questions in my mind.

QUESTION ONE:
Normally, the account ranges are in column B, not C. What's in column B?

What I would do is insert a "hide-when-printed" column, let's call it column D. In there I would enter 8220-`. Then I would change the ADGET formula to refer to $D19, not $C19.

QUESTION TWO:

If you want to hardcode departments into the account range, how do you print out departmental reports? If you don't, then why have departments?

I would strongly suggest changing account 8190-2 to 8191-2 (or some other unused number). The main purpose for a chart of accounts is to support printing financial statements, and that is very hard to do if the same account needs to appear on multiple lines on a financial statement.

I am answering these questions without much knowledge of your situation - you might be better off bouncing your questions and my answers off of your Adagio consultant.

Hi Lulu,

Question One
To retrieve the first description in a range of accounts, rather than the last, use =ADGETF() instead of ADGET().

Question Two
Make the range
Code:
8190,8190-1,8190-4,8190-5,8190-100

and use ADGETF() to pick up the first description (or just type it into the field).
