We just discovered that the bad debt account was set as a balance sheet account and not an income statement account...I do have a backup of the ledger prior to year end and I even created a 2004 gl folder but we are now 3 months into the new fiscal year....I read a previous posting from May 17, 2002 where you talked about making a journal entry to correct the problem....my accountant said that is not possible and I do not have a dealer...there is no journal entry that could be made to correct this problem....is my only option to restore the general ledger to prior to my year end and then enter by hand all journal entries posted to the general ledger since the year end closing? Please let me know. Thank you!!

Hello Holquist,

If you send us your GL and tell us which account it is, we can fix this as a database repair. Contact dbrepair@softrak.com with the details of how you'd like it corrected and upload the data to http://www.softrak.com/dbr - remember not to do any work in the general ledger while we have the data. It should not take more than a day to have it back in your hands.

Hello Sherri,

Carleen has told me you have decided not to have us repair the file. If you are going to restore back to prior to your year end, you can save yourself a lot of work by unposting and archiving all the batches you have posted in the new year. Restore your gl prior to year end. Correct the account type and re-run the year end. Then retrieve and re-post all of this year's batches.

Sorry you didn't feel that this should be a chargeable service. It's a fiddley repair to do and get right.

Thanks, Andrew...I will try that and see how it works....I will make sure and do a current backup in case I mess it up....It is not that I didn't think it should be a chargeable service at all it is that I didn't understand from your reply that it was chargeable and I would rather try and do it myself than expend that kind of money for it....thank you so much for your prompt (as usual) response.

I went into help and it told me to select "batch unpost from current year" in the post menu....I have no such menu choice...am I looking in the wrong place?

While I was waiting for a reply I went into company profile / options and saw that the "allow unpost / reverse batch" box was not checked. So, I guess this means that I will need to just restore it to the point before I did year end, perform year end and manually enter everything back into the system through today....or am I missing something....by the way, i have checked that box for the future.

To enable the 'unposting' feature, there is a setting in the Ledger Company Profile to allow this. Once that is done, you will see the Unpost feature and the associated audit report added to the end of the Post menu.

Note that if you have consolidated your accounts, then unposting batches will not be possible for any batches that had any of it's details consolidated.

Andrew, you are the best!!! I just went through the unposting of all my 2005 entries, archived the batches, restored the gl to 2004, corrected the account type and then did close year again and then restored all the archived batches and posted them and it is 100% perfect. I can't thank you enough....even when we screw it up you are still able to help us fix whatever mistake it is....if you were in chicago I would treat you to a margarita....well hope you have a great day anyway!!! I hope to make it to one of the academies in canada soon....thanks again!!!
