Good day to you all,

One of our users reported that she no longer had access to a folder that she used to have (A/P).

To back up her case she submitted a printed report that says "printed by user"... and it is her.

I recovered two copies of the database in question from our disaster recovery system - one at 0700 hrs and the other at 1000 hrs for the day the report was run which at 09:28.

Neither recovered database has the user right (security group) that would have been required for her to gain access and no one else was in the office that day that has the SYS password or has been given the right to change the security groups for the database in question.

To be clear, no user rights had been added to the database f (for AP) so, by all that is defined - only the SYS account should have worked but clearly this is not the case.

Any ideas anyone?

Thank you and,

Cheers, JK

PS: when I try logging into the restored databases now with her credentials I am denied.

John:
Is there a copy of that particular database located elsewhere that she may have opened?

Hi, John,

Are other users able to log in still?

You mention security groups. If you log into Adagio Payables as user SYS and select File | Security Group Setup, does the group this user belongs to appear in the list? If not, it must have been deleted. Do any other AP users' security groups show in the list? If not, perhaps either (a) those files were deleted via this function or from within the data folder or (b) the data that was restored to this folder was not a complete dataset.

What is the Tasks= path in the data\ADSPROF.xxx data file (where data\ represents the data path and 'xxx' the data's 3-character extension)? This is where Adagio is looking for the userlist.

If you log into Adagio as user SYS and select File | User Setup, does this user still show in the list? If not, perhaps they were deleted. If no other users show, the Tasks= path is probably not pointing to where the userlist is actually stored.

Hi Bruce,

The security group for this module in this folder was empty that morning before the report was run at 0700 - only SYS access would have been allowed.

The security group for this module in this folder was empty that morning after the report was run - the report was run at 09:28 and the second restored database was taken at 1000 hrs.

The only other person who knows the SYS password was away on holidays and confirms they did not add and remove the security group.

The task entry in the [ADS] section reads:
Task=m:\asp

This is what it reads for all of our databases so it appears there is nothing wrong there...

I still cannot explain how she got in...

I have checked all of our databases and there are no other with the same extension.

This kind of stuff really scares me...

Any other ideas that might explain this are truly appreciated.

Thank you and,

Cheers, JK
