Will the optional fields print on our inventory reports? Seems more of a workaround than a solution.

Which Inventory reports? I could not find any report where the Picking Sequence plays any significant role except the Physical Inventory Worksheet. It is printed on the Item Status report, but this report also allows you to print the Optional Fields.

We could add the Optional Fields to the Physical Inventory report. However, this report allows you to select a range of Picking Sequences to process. How do you see that working?

Yes, this is a workaround but it is something you can use today. We cannot change the Bin Location field size or its handling at the moment.

We will continue with 4 characters for now and look forward to a Softrak solution in the future. Increasing the size of the field would help us so that we could use that one field to enter multiple bin locations. It might be a better solution in the long term to have the ability to add more pick sequences per item. This would enable us to use picking sequences for one location each and then we would also have the ability to sort reports by bin location.

What would be wrong with having a sign at the main bin which gives the locations of the backup bins? If the main bin gets low, someone can be advised to replenish the main bin.

Could you add the optional fields to the sort sequence for the Physical Inventory report? I'm using your suggestion but this report will be used for our year end inventory count so it needs to be printed by inventory location (pick sequence). My work around will be assigning a pick sequence number to each of my inventory location but this is going to be a pain especially if/when I add locations in the future. It would also be nice if the optional fields were added to the list of available fields in the export/import file for the Physical Inventory Worksheet. Having to cross reference them is going to be a pain also.

Rather than change the size of the pick sequence field would it be possible to add one or two additional pick fields to inventory? That would keep compatibility with the other applications, wouldn't it?

One of our large sites is now having real issues with the limitation of 1 picking sequence per inventory location. Overflow inventory locations is quite common in distribution solutions and they need this functionality by warehouse location.

They have attempted to use overflow locations for the overflow issue but with 4 inventory locations that is about to expand to 6 and more, there simply is not enough space or functionality to use the optional fields set up on the item master.

The previous thread over 2 years ago made mention that the limiting factor was that changing the IC database would have affected PO compatibility.

Now that the upgrade has been done for Purchase Orders, could the migration to the optional fields by location occur, if that was being contemplated? Or is the picking sequence overflow by location being addressed?

While that is being considered, could the situation also look at primary and secondary vendor by location as well for situations where the warehouse locations are being filled by vendors with geographic locations located nearby the city where the warehouse location is located?
