My Accountant has asked for a change to the data but when we open the new year at the beginning of Feb we no longer can go into the prior year. I want to retreive the data from my back up of the end of Jan into a dummy file to make the adjustments for report purposes only and not effect our current data. It use to be that at each year end we closed off and started a new data file but not anymore. I can't see a restore from backup. What am I missing.

Sammy:
There is no function in Adagio to restore files. You must do that through Windows by locating the correct ZIP file and extracting the files to a different folder. Be very careful to not overwrite the live files.

But why not just make a "Prior Year" posting to adjust the past year? That is easier than restoring files and, at the same time of course, updates your live data.

Are you using Ledger 8.1 or 9.0?

It would be a lot simplier if I could just do a prior year posting, however our previous accounting firm always had us do the adjusting entries on the first day of the current year, not posted into the prior year. Now our new accounting firm wants the adjusting entries posted into the prior year but they did not say that until after I had opened the new year which means what they wanted posted was last years prior year. Too late now. So they want me to produce a report for the end of last year end showing the adjusting entries. They know that these entries were in fact posted into the current past year and these reports are being produced only for their sake not the actual data files. Had they let us know this even three weeks earlier we could have fixed it properly. Thanks for the info. I'll retrieve it into a dummy file and get them their reports.

In Adagio you can post to the prior year but this option may be disabled.Seems to me that the right answer would be to change the setup (last tab in the company profile).

I need to post to the year prior to the prior year.

If it is REALLY important to do this, your Adagio consultant could walk you through unposting all the batches that you have posted in the new year, moving those batches to the archive, restoring your backup you made before opening the new year, posting the entries to the prior year and then stitching in the archive batch and restoring your work. It's fiddley and complicated, but doable. You'd want someone experienced doing this for you.
