When viewing each forum screen, the folders-icon next to each thread (on the extreme left side) appear yellow when they are new to the forum member (i.e. unopened) and white once I have viewed the issue.

This is a good feature, as it indicates to me which items have new content.

However, I was just now viewing the Technical Support page and there were a number of New Posts for me on the first screen. I opened the first item, and in error closed my internet connection to Softrak.

When I came back in, I was surprised to discover that all the items were now flagged as Opened (i.e. a white folder, not yellow).

I tested this with the General Inquires forum, and the same thing occurred.

Is this correct? Shouldn’t all the posts remain unflagged until we really to open them?

Just wondering…

Hi Samuel,

The yellow 'unread' indicator is set for each object, either for a particular forum or for a specific topic within. If you access a particular forum with unread topics, this will reset the forum colour from yellow to white, but it will not change any of the individual topics if they are not opened.

When you said you opened the 'first' item, is this the newest topic, or the oldest unread topic? It may be that the unread topic setting is based on all consecutive topics after the last one read. To flag every topic as read or unread as a cookie for future loading may be cumbersome to load and the forum software didn't implement this.

If you had an 'internet error', then it may be fair to say that all bets are off in regards to how settings display.

There was no internal error. I simply clicked on the "x" to close my internet session - in other words, I closed my session on the forum, and then came back later.

I opened the newest item. (I do not know if this would repeat itself if I were to open the oldest item, close the softrak site, and then come back into the forum.)

At the bottom of the page is a "Mark all read" option. Once you are satisfied that you are up to date, then click that choice and you should be good going forward.

Also, if you are accessing the forum from different devices (or computers), then occasionally I've see it get out of synch.

It's possible that if you close the internet connection, rather than exiting normally, the forum may consider that you've reviewed all the topics in the forum that you were interested in.
