I am trying to create a simple report in GridView that shows the components on a bill of material. Is there any way to add to the report the component description. The item description is not a field that is part of the BOM Detail file.

It seems that when I copy over the description field from IC Items I get the master item description, not the component description.

If not, can I make a suggestion that this be allowed?

Okay, this is how you do it.

Either copy the Description column from the IC Master (1) table view to the IC BOM List Detail table view or use the Edit | Insert Related Column function.

Then, edit the Description calculated column and change the last parameter from {Master Item #} to {Component Item #}.

The formula becomes: GETEXTERNALDATA("@N81CICM", "Description", "ICITEM", {Component Item #})
