Good day everyone,

We have been having ongoing sporadic application hangs under Win2K3 R2 64 bit and Terminal services.

I cross checked the rights and ChkSys and the only anomaly was MSVCRT71.dll.

I updated the DLL and chksys still reports the same problem so, I figured I should look for a solution as those accessing the terminal service were getting a little bit ... well you know..

So, I quickly mounted another terminal server and pointed traffic to it. This is a 32 bit server and all the policies and rights were deployed in the exact same way as they were for the 64 bit server.

The good news is that Adagio runs brilliantly on the 32 bit terminal server - no hangs, no problems at all.

I deployed these installations in the exact same manner and ponder if there are any limitation to running Adagio on a 64 bit platform via TS.

Cheers, JK

As I have other clients (granted a very small number) running Adagio on a 64 bit server without any issues, the 64 bit O/S is not specifically a problem but the O/S could still be the issue (MS bug fixes have broken none MS applications before).

Is it your hardware? When you say you mounted a 32 bit server did you do so uisng a different box?

Is it your install of Adagio? Is it Adagio itself? Both questions are nearly impossible to answer in this forum. The first requires a detailed examination of your install and the second would be difficult to assertain without eliminating the first.

Hi Doug,

Thank you for posting up.

These are brand new servers and are very fast quad core with gobs of ram - everything else runs on them perfectly well including all the office applications, our main application of record a custom app written by myself and our helm application - no problems anywhere - even paymate has no problem.

We recently retired a server from the data center and threw it back into operation in a non critical role and installed a fresh copy of Win2K3 but without the R2 extensions and now that I say it - I have a gut feeling that the schema extensions that R2 brings might be the problem.

I will investigate and post up.

Cheers, JK

Good day gentlemen,

As of today we have not had any problems with Adagio running on Terminal Services on Win2K3 Server standard 32 bit w/o R2 extensions.

In order to ascertain which of these factors is the culprit (x64 or R2) I will need to promote the 32 bit machine to R2 (try the the easiest things first) but before doing so I need to give my users some time w/o problems so, I will post up in about a week or so.

Should the problem not resurface, I will find a 64 bit server and mount Win2K3 w/o the R2 extensions and point my users to it for a while and then promote the unit to R2...

Thank you for your patience and,

Cheers, JK
