Hi Jenny,

Bar code scanning systems are highly tailored to a business and usually require a fair degree of customization. There is a full warehouse management system from RF Pathways that integrates with Adagio. Including the hardware and setup, your budget should be $25,000 or more (I think), but you should contact your reseller and RF pathways for a better idea.

"Bar code scanning" means many different things to different people. You have to have a clear idea of what you want to do. Here are some questions that need answering:
  • Are you reading bar codes on receipt of inventory, when it is being shipped, or both?
  • Are you assigning the bar codes, or will you be using UPC codes?
  • UPC codes include the unit of measure. How will this be dealt with?
  • Will you be wanding orders as they are shipped? Will they be picked before they are brought to the station to be wanded?
  • If you want the same item three times, must the quantity count be bumped, or three line items on the invoice?
  • ...and I'm sure there are lots more!

I'm sure others will contribute their thoughts, but it's a complex subject requiring some very specialized knowledge. If your budget does not run to $20,000+, then I doubt there's much point is looking much farther. It's ALWAYS more complicated than just plugging in a scanner.

Hi Jenny,

RF Pathways is a full Warehouse Management solution as Andrew has indicated.

Sometimes companies are looking for a comparatively simple Barcode shipping solution that prints barcoded labels which are often mandated by their customers. If this is the case, there are some other options you may want to consider.

I have been involved in projects involving Intermec scanners and printers with Loftware barcode labelling software and Intermec software that picks up orders (to ship) information from data extracted from an Order Entry application and then returns actual shipment data back to the Order Entry app for invoicing.

Stief Group has several software options for extracting order data, generating barcoded label and paperwork, and writing information back to Order Entry and Inventory applications.

On the other hand if you are looking for a full Warehouse Management solution and have the budget then, as Andrew indicated, RF Pathways is the way to go.

If interested, I can provide further details.
I can be contacted at Stief Group 519.746.3118
