Have you ever changed the size of the individual columns in a Grid and then had to fiddle around to make them actually fill the space available? When I was doing this with a programmer watching the other day, he wondered why I didn't just re-size the form!

After you have set the column widths to what you want, re-size the entire container form and the grid columns will be re-sized to fill the available space if possible.

You learn someting every day!

BTW, if you want the column widths to be permanently saved in the new size, you'll have to double click on the column titles and bring up the grid editor to have the settings saved.

Andrew:

Thank you for both tips.

I never knew how to save the column widths after tinkering with them. But instead of using the Column Editor to save the settings, why not just save them automatically?

Because the grid itself doesn't "know" how to do that (or really what it's displaying, hard as that is to believe).

Andrew:

So that means when the application remembers the size and location of a window that happens to contain a grid (ie. the Customer list), that's a different control from the grid control?

More evidence that things are more complex than they appear on the surface!

Yup - you got it. Grids exist within a window and their settings are stored separately.
