Hi there,

I have a custom report that I use to export our sales data to an Excel spreadsheet. The export works in Crystal but when I try to "verify Database" it gives me an error about not being able to find the table for SRW68.

I really need to automate this report and that is something that CR just doesn't do. I found a couple of programs (Crystal Delivery, and CRD) which both do what I'm looking for, but they have errors with this same report. They give me an error "cannot load database" or cannot find P2BSSI.DLL.

Any idea what is going on here? How can the report export fine but the program not be able to find my database?

Please help!

Hi Lucas,

A custom report will continue to work as long as the data and report table is in the same place. When running Verify Database, this will force a re-load of various paths and settings and if any are incorrect, you will receive the error you got. This error typically appears because you don't have rights to the \softrak\system\win32 directory, where this file is stored.

My guess is that you will get the same error when trying to create a brand new report, because it uses the same database loading procedure. When you Verify Database (or create a new report), what method of loading databases do you use - adagio.ssi or the xxglob.dat file in the data directory?

Have you recently reinstalled Adagio programs, such as to a new server? If you have reinstalled Crystal Reports for Adagio, you need to reinstall other programs, such as Adagio SalesAnalysis.

Is it correct that you primarily open the report from the Crystal Reports designer? If you save the custom report to a \softrak\srwin\customrp directory, you can open Adagio SalesAnalysis to your company and see your reports under the Reports menu and in a Custom Reports fly-out. This would allow you to skip having to Verify Database every time you want to print the report for a different company.

What type of server are you on? Windows? Linux? Ensure you don't have any read-only folders or files in the \softrak folder hierarchy.

Hmm, I suppose I was entirely unclear. All your questions are valid but you forgot one major one: Do I even know what I'm doing?

The answer is maybe. I manage our network and servers at this office but I was not in charge of Adagio. That was farmed out to a guy who all of a sudden went AWOL. I'm kinda learning the backend of the software on the fly

Anyway, I think I'm using the xxglob.dat format (although our files are *.psv if that makes any difference). If I try pointing to adagio.ssi it opens up an Adagio window that wants me to enter Company Info.

The install was performed by the aforementioned dude. It's installed on a Linux server running CentOS 4 (RHEL4 basically). The install isn't new though as we've been using it since Sept. '07. I'm pretty sure I have all the proper permissions, but I didn't even check the system files.

Opening the report from Adagio isn't really what I want to do with it. I want to automate the exporting of the report to an Excel file in order to incorporate it into another analysis tool that we use. Since CR doesn't allow me to perform command-line actions or use macros (nor does Adagio for that matter...BOO!), I need to go to an alternative program. Those programs are having the same problem with the report's association with the database that CR is.

What is the best way to load the DB?

Okay, so I figured out the adagio.ssi thing and it's still giving me errors.

I followed the instructions on how to set the database using that file and then when I verify the database it STILL gives me the "Error opening file:

Cannot open File: SRW68 Transactions at i:\..."

Help please?

When running the Verify database function, it will always give a message that the table cannot be found. After this, you are then asked to look for the database, in your case using either adagio.ssi or srglob.psv (in the company data directory). At this point, the process will either say that the report is up to date, indicate that another file needs to be updated (same steps as before, just repeat) or an error will occur because proper files cannot be found. If in fact an error occurs, it will be because a required system file cannot be found.

You only need to run 'Verify database' if you want to point the report to a different company database. Is this what you want to do?

Perhaps your SalesAnalysis table is missing or unreadable? Report tables are stored in a folder called 'qrasp', and it typically will be found on the root of the same drive where Adagio programs are installed - this is likely on the i drive, based on your posting.

In the i:\qrasp directory, you should find a table file qrtsrw68.qrw and if not, this is a problem. If it is there, then you should have seen it when using 'adagio.ssi' as the database selector and listing 'All' tables. I suspect that the table is there, based on the wording of your message and also that the report continues to work.

The fact that this is a Linux server adds a layer of complexity.

No, sorry but Crystal Reports 8.5 on it's own doesn't have the automation processes for this to happen automatically.
