Dear Ssnyder
Although you can import transactions into TBR, I cannot instuct you on methods to use in ACCESS to format the database file.
The file formats that you can import into TBR are:
- Supercalc
- dBase II, III
- Lotus 123
- ASCII (I believe this is delimited, comma separated values)
- DIF
- SYLK
You can import client, file, staff or disbursement profiles and invoice, cash and time/disbursement transactions into TBR.
You must tell TBR what the record structure of your import file is during the import process. TBR is quite flexible in this regard, and you will have a chance to tell it:
- if there is a header record in your file, and if there is, the number of characters it should skip at the start of your import file before it looks for transaction data.
- the transaction type: time or disbursement or 'in file'.
- the fields to import and the order that they will appear in your file.
You can also tell TBR to skip characters between fields, specify the length of each field and the type of field it is.
For the information I believe you are seeking, Appendix G gets into much more detail about "Importing TBR Data". It will tell you about the syntax you should use for your file format as well as what fields are available to import, their default field lengths, values allowed to import etc.
This Appendix is in the TBR "System Reference & Client Profiles" manual.
Hope this helps.
