I am just setting up my balance sheet & income statement.

when I run these, the amounts are way off. it looks like the "opening balances" are all incorrect. in some cases, the opening balance was correct for 1/1/08 but the figures are doubled. for example, I started with prepaid taxes of $46,930 and the report shows the balance to be $93,860 (with no activity in the month of January to that account).

where is the system pulling the opening balances from and how can I modify them to reflect the correct starting amounts?

when I view the ledger accounts in Ledger, the opening balances and month end for Jan 31 are correct.

It all depends on the choice you make when selecting the data fields. There are Current Balance, Opening Balance and Balance at end of selected period. There are also choices for balance 1 to 13 periods ago, end of last quarter etc. You need to be sure which one you really want.

You can always do a test report with columns for all the likely candidates and see the results.

Hi Eloise

Try browsing to the sample data and opening up the spec called GL!SuperSpec.SAM if you are using version 8.1A or GL!SuperSpec90.SAM if you are using version 9.0A. The sample spec is located in the \Softrak\ALWIN\Samdata folder for version 8.1A or \Softrak\Ledger\Samdata folder for version 9.0A.

The SuperSpec statement shows you every possible spec field and gives you an idea of what they do.

You should also sign up for a 1-hour long Softrak webinar on financial statement design - http://www.softrak.com/support/training/webinars.php . They are free to users on an Upgrades Plan (which you are on if you just bought the software). You will learn the basics, and the Softrak trainer will answer any specific questions you may have.
