Thanks for the answers. This is exactly the response I guessed at which is a great help for planning purposes.
(I am not sure I am getting the words correct in this paragraph but I think you will understand the intent) We are forced to use the "Direct Method" because I am sending the emails though a remote email server (not mine but my clients) utilizing a VPN. It works great because the end customer never sees my email information - only my clients. All Return Receipts are sent directly to my clients email address.
I totally understand and agree with your comments and Andrews comments. You are correct, we are looking for a delivery receipt to show that the "hand-off" of emails upstream was successfull and any problems are now on the Customer side of the issue.
My research has found that suppression of delivery receipts can be implemented within the mail system/server but in general is not normally suppressed. The default in most systems is to respond to "Delivery Receipt" requests. Most "Read Receipts" are suppressed by Recipient choice or company policy.
Yes, you guessed it, I would like to request a delivery receipt with the option to turn on or off either or both of these just like Outlook.
While you are at it, A "CC" or "BCC" copy of the email (in the email setup) would also be very nice because then my client can receive an exact copy of what was sent to the customer. Currently we add a 2nd email address in each custemer master for my clients copy. Works neat, but obviously more work to setup.
Thanks for your consideration and your help.
