Using Invoices 9.2A (160507)

We would like to separate our items on an invoice with a space but adding a space within the item description details doesn't work, it won't display it on preview or print.
I've also tried creating a separate item that has all options deselected so they don't show, except for description. But this doesn't display anything either.
The only way I've had success is if a put a . (period) in the description field. Having a period separating the items is better than nothing but wonder if there's another solution to making our invoices less crowded?
