Using Invoices 9.2A (160507)
We would like to separate our items on an invoice with a space but adding a space within the item description details doesn't work, it won't display it on preview or print. I've also tried creating a separate item that has all options deselected so they don't show, except for description. But this doesn't display anything either. The only way I've had success is if a put a . (period) in the description field. Having a period separating the items is better than nothing but wonder if there's another solution to making our invoices less crowded?
Thanks Karin

If you are looking to always have a space between items, you could modify the invoice specification. If you are not comfortable doing that, you should contact your Adagio Consultant.

Thanks Steve And Dan, I had contacted my Adagio consultant a while back and she gave me some options using the items but I couldn't get them to work. I HATE (note uppercase!) touching the invoice specs and I used to be a programmer! I assume this would change the format for all invoices using that spec? Not my preferred solution as some of our invoices are ok without spaces. If that's the only solution, I might create a special "space" invoice spec for that purpose... I'll pass this thread onto our consultant in case she doesn't see the discussion here. Thanks!

Hi KNoel,
Indeed if a change is made to a specification, then that change would be reflected in all future invoice printing when using that spec.
I suspect your specs are defined so that blank rows are suppressed, and that is why putting in a period is allowing an extra row to print.
If only some invoices require changes for additional spacing, and other invoices do not, you'd have to determine what factors come into play where the extra spacing is required or not, and that could point toward the desired solution. Perhaps the answer is to create an 'item' that simply prints a blank line, with a different spec type different than 'real items', so that blank lines are not suppressed. Sample data has this method set up. Or another answer might be to increase the height of specific detail sections so that extra space is always included - though if this is not desired for all invoices then this would mean having different specs.
There are always trade-offs, and I'm sure your consultant will be able to assist.

KNoel:
You can always open your spec & make a copy of it as a different filename (also, changing the Specification Options title).
Then you can modify the line spacing, and not be spooked about messing up your forms.
As well, once you have it working, you could have two (or more) specs, named: Invoice-Single Space and Invoice-Double Space, or whatever you decide makes sense. It then becomes relatively easy to set one of your specs as the default, and when necessary, you can switch to the other spec.

There is a recorded webinar on using the Invoices Designer available for review on our web site.

Thanks everyone for your help, including my adagio consultant ;o) The solution that works for us will be to have a style spec A (suppress) for the majority of our items and a style spec B (no suppress) for an item called BLANKL, which we'll use when we need to spread out our invoice information.
I wasn't aware that an item will print a blank line even if the item line# is blank/empty/unfilled when in "do not suppress blank" mode, otherwise that would have been a perfect solution for us.
The invoice specifications now make a little more sense to me when seeing Detail line A,B,C...! Andrew, I'll do a Invoices Designer refresher as well... Karin
