When I ExcelDirect a SalesAnalysis inquiry, and open up the workbook in Excel the rows are shaded in what I call "banding". Alternate rows have different background shading.

When I try the same thing with a GridView view, the rows are not shaded that way.

Is there a setting to turn on that feature?

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,

In GridView and the Edit / Defaults area, the General tab has a place to enable the option for exporting 'ExcelDirect as table'. If this is enabled, it will allow selecting a Table Style, which comes from the list in Excel. If you choose an Excel Table Style that has this single row banding, then your exported GV views should have this. It worked for me when exporting a single view to Excel and the 'Table Style Light 1', among others.

GridView allows you to customize the table shading, unlike other Adagio ExcelDirect uses.

Hi Support

I tried that and now the banding is there, but the column headings (Row 1) are all blank when I ExcelDirect a view that is summarized. I do see them for a brief moment while the ExcelDirecting is happening and then they disappear, replaced by the Filter arrow.

What am I missing?

Steve:

If your experience is like mine, the column headings are not blank, they are white lettering on a light grey background. They are illegible. I always have to highlight the top row and switch the font to black. This has been an annoyance for a while. I hope that Support knows of a setting that solves the problem.

Hi Bruce

I confirmed that your experience is exactly what I'm experiencing.

However, it is easily fixable by selecting a Table Style other than Default under GridView | Edit | Defaults. I chose "Table Style Light 1" and everything works now.

Thanks Steve. I should have looked for something like that long ago.

It's interesting. There are 144 "Table styles" to choose from. They have mysterious names like "Pivot Style Dark 26" and "Table Style Medium 19". Most of them (in my small sample size) still result in illegible white lettering as the header row. Fortunately there are several among the 144 (like the one you chose) that are practical.
