The latest AP update says it cannot find the payables program in Softrak/Payables. True, the file is in the directory APWIN. When I redirect the install to that directory it says the program does not exist.
Question 1 - is there a fix for this?
Question 2 - if I don't want to go to the trouble of trying to fix it can I simply use AP 8.3 with GL 9.2? The reason I ask is that I have several batches to import to the GL for year end and now am concerned that I have already converted the GL data for 9.2A and do not want to try to import from the old AP is there is going to be some conflict that may lose data. I assumed the conversion of data involved all of the AP data at the same time but am not certain as I am a novice at this.
Your advice would be appreciated as the year end needs to be done asap.
Dave

AP 8.1F and previous versions were installed to \Softrak\APWIN and the program file was APWIN.exe. However AP 9.2A is installed to \Softrak\Payables and the program file is Payables.exe.

GL 9.2 will continue to retrieve and work fully with AP 8.1F (there isn't any 8.3).

It sounds as if you are trying to install the AP 9.2 Service Pack without first having installed the full Payables module. What is the name of the file you are trying to install?

Hello Dave.

You are trying to install a Service pack to a version you have not yet installed.

You need to install the Upgrade (the current download includes the Service Pack changes).

I am trying to install the latest update (9.2A) and my current version of payables is 8.1F (130826). Perhaps it is best to just continue as is since GL 9.2A works with the data anyway. I have only the most basic need of functionality so this should not be much of a problem. It would be nice however, to upgrade as I am paying for it!

Hi djd,

Could you confirm what you mean by 'installing the latest update'? This could be either a 9.2A service pack - which is not allowed as per Andrew's comments - or a 9.2A upgrade that includes the service pack changes, which is allowed.

One trick for installing upgrades when the program folder or executable name changes, as is the case for Payables 9.2A from "Apwin" to "Payables", is to browse to just the Softrak folder, rather than to the Apwin folder or a self-created Payables folder. Doing the browse to the Softrak folder will perform the proper filling in of the remaining path and not give an error for a missing EXE. This scenario of changing program path/file names is pretty rare, though this year it is more common as we change 9.2A versions from an 'xxWIN' format to a full product name.

I just looked up the history and it seems there is no 8.1F update, but that is the version number my AP shows. I tried pointing the install to the softrak/ directory but it said there was no payables version installed. I looked in the APWIN directory and the program is definitely there (plus the fact I use it every day). Could it be as easy as renaming the directory from APWIN to Payables?

No, it would be a bad idea to rename the apwin directory to Payables.

For us to be able to provide further assistance, we need to know the name of the file you are using to perform the upgrade install. One way to determine if you are using the correct install is whether you are prompted for an install code and serial number - a service pack does not ask for this but an upgrade does.

If it is APSPP20150609.EXE and around 36Mb in size, then this is a service pack file and not the appropriate upgrade installer program for you. To install version 9.2A, you need to download AP5P20150609.EXE from the Upgrades link, which is about 88Mb in size.

Hi Dave,

Those are the service pack files and not the appropriate ones to use to change your Payables version from 8.1F to 9.2A.

You should have received an email regarding the announcement of an upgrade being available, provided that your Upgrades support plan was current at the time. The link to download the upgrade file, and the corresponding install code and serial number, would have been in that email.

If you no longer have that email and your Upgrades support plan has not expired, then you could contact either your Adagio consultant or Softrak Customer Service to provide the information for you.
