(I searched for this topic and could not find an answer. If I am duplicating something already on the Forums, I apologize.)

With many people upgrading to Windows 7 because of the end of support for Windows XP, I wanted to share my experience that I learned the hard way. After transferring Adagio to a new Windows 7 computer or upgrading a current computer to Windows 7, everyone is tempted to make their screen look bigger because it appears too tiny. Then when you print your Adagio forms, they seem to be "smushed" to the left and up. All the reports are fine and printing from other programs is fine. So everyone downloads a new printer driver or switches printers with no solution to the problem. Then they spend a lot of time changing the specifications, but they're still not perfect. No one makes the connection between printing and display size.

I have found the problem to be with the Display settings rather than the Resolution settings. In Windows 7, if you select a display of anything other than "Smaller - 100% (Default)", then the printed forms are too small (such as checks and invoices) and the Adagio screen boxes are also too small to contain the larger text and some of the text is outside the box and does not display properly. In fact, when printing checks, you cannot even see all of the date fields to select the checks.

The best way to make the screen larger for those that cannot see the small screen text is to change the Resolution setting and NOT the Display setting. Leave the display at Smaller - 100% and you will not have to change your specifications. You can change the Resolution with no effect on the Adagio boxes or Adagio forms.

I hope this helps everyone before they spend countless hours changing specifications unnecessarily.

Hi Carol,

A complete description of using Adagio with Large Fonts is contained on the Technical Tips page in a document entitled "Using large screen fonts in Adagio".

If you type "adagio accounting large screen fonts" into Google, it's the second item offered, after a link into this forum that contains a reference.

Google is a wonderful thing and will find almost everything on our web site if you just include the term "Adagio accounting" in the search.

Thank you, Andrew. That is extremely helpful. It basically expresses the same thing I was talking about with a step-by-step pictorial.

Most people don't associate the display problems with the form printing problems, since most printing issues in Windows are related to drivers, so of course, that's the first thing they replace. I just wanted to make everyone aware of the connection.

Carolyn, you are correct that we don't think about the connection between display and printing.

That is because it has been around since the early days of Windows (and Mac). WYSIWYG was a big deal back then because, for the first time, printing did not rely on the fonts installed in the printer but allowed the operating system to download fonts to the printer as needed.

Hi:
As normal I am a little behind everyone in getting to upgrading to Windows 7. I carefully followed the instructions for " Adagio and Large Fonts" but I can not seem to solve the problems. I am a little uncertain as to after selecting the Aero Theme and going to set custom text size, if I then scale to 150% it automatically disables the XP style DPI scaling. Is that the correct way? After doing that I still can not view the customer lists, or any of the viewing of reports. Am I stuck with having to leave it set at 100% and needing magnifying glasses in order to read my screen?
