I'm trying to import a list of customers into A/R and I want the customer # to be only 5 digits long (so they will sort to the top of my customer list). I've changed the customer number field properties to width 5 (in Import Field Selection), but when it imports the list it adds a period "." to the end of the customer number making them all 6-digits. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong...please advise.

That is happening because of a setting in the Company Profile which forces all Customer codes to be the same length (6 digits/characters in your case). Shorter codes are padded to the full length (with periods in your case). Having all Customer codes the same length is a tremendous benefit when it comes to searching by code.

So before you make any changes, why do you want those Customers to be at the top? How does that help you? How are they different from other Customers?
