We have seen this occur before as well. Usually this is isolated to a specific workspace. If your views are sometimes saved on closing and the save doesn't complete properly, a view that normally opens or refreshes on the next workspace open, will hang the workspace.
We are not aware of any way to check the workspace for damage but have seen the symptoms reported, to know that it can happen.
We would suggest restoring a backup copy of your Gridviews from your datacare backups from a week ago, for the selected GVS, for starters, and if that version will not open, then the related views as well.
Alternatively, you could open up the current views separately and ensure that you can open, save and close. And then try the GVS.
But the preference and fastest would be the restore from say a week ago, when the workspace was working properly.
