Hi All,

I'd like to add non-product items to our bills of material in Adagio IC (we are using 8.1B 100310). Things like Trim Labour, CNC Labour, Shipping Charge etc.

This will allow me to more easily roll up all of my costs.

I do not want to stock these things in inventory though.

Can you please suggest a way to get this done?

Thanks,

Cam

If you must use Inventory, you can lump the costs as fixed and/or variable costs as part of the bill of material. In which case you would keep the underlying details of the costs in an Excel spreadsheet, and when they change, modify each bill of material accordingly.

Hmm, so there's no way to include sundry or non-stock items in BOMs?

No. Because every time you did an assembly, IC would have to stop and ask the particulars for each item.

Hi Cam,

JobTracker can include Trim Labour, CNC Labour, Shipping Charge, Shop charges, write up and write down charges etc or other items that are not inventoried. Inventory items plus labour miscellaneous and shop charges can be included on a job. The job can be manufactured to an inventory item BOM and the item can be sold using any Adagio invoicing product that can sell inventory items. Another module to purchase but it will address your requirements. Contact Doug Dickie above and I'm sure he can arrange for a demo at a mutually convenient time.

It would be wonderful if the BOM's in Adagio did allow for non-stock items to be part of the BOM rollup. For example items of packaging or consumables that are costs but not tracked in inventory with quantities, or definable labour costs.

Currently there is a prompt for showing items that are not available and if enabled will stop on each item not available. Ok, so now we see most clients using our gridview which displays the quantities not on hand prior to doing the assembly, rather than prompting when doing the assembly process. Like, what are you going to do if the component item is not in stock and you need to complete the assembly?

Making the non-stock items part of the BOM processing would be a nice feature and as Terry shows, is practical and necessary.

Best,
Brian

With JobTracker, it is the BOM and can be manufactured to a stock, or one off non-stock item. If manufacturing to a non-stock item, the item should be sold before manufacturing another job to the same item. If the job is manufactured to a stocking item, the costing method for the item will be observed. Also, a group of jobs organized as an object can be manufactured to an item, allowing even more flexibility in a custom manufacturing environment. JobTracker is a different approach to BOM, BOM is not it's primary focus, however it is probably the most flexible approach to Bill of Materials processing available to Adagio. JobTracker is designed to track parts, labour, shop materials, raw material and miscellaneous items required to complete a job, project, task or activity from start to completion recording status changes as the job progresses.
For more information, ask Doug or Brian to arrange a webinar demo at a mutually convenient time.

A late entry to the discussion...

Two other options (maybe) for non-stock

Option 1
Can we have an item with a standard cost of $1 in the assembly and have that cost add to the assembled cost? The actual cost would be $0, so the entry would be to inventory and the variance account...
If you want to add $10 assembly cost to the item, you would add 10 of these items to the assembly

Option 2
create a labour inventory item - avg cost
create a new account set - labour
point the inventory control account to the 'applied labour' account in your gl
Do an adjustment to inventory to add 1,000,000 labour hours - dr and cr to the 'applied labour' account.(net $0 to GL)
every time an assembly is done, the applied labour account is credited and the inventory account is debited.
