My company is now using Google Apps for email and I use Outlook Express as my email client program.

I have tried using the email settings as MAPI and direct without success. When using Direct I use smtp.gmail.com as the email server and port 465 as the outgoing port.

Does anyone have experience setting up the email to be used with Google Apps?

Thanks!
Lester

Lester:

If you were using the full version of Outlook you could use the MAPI option in Adagio.

To use the Direct method normally all you need to do is replicate the account setup used for Outlook.

The Port number is usually 25 (the default setting to get through your firewall.

Not sure what complexities using Google Apps ads to the setup, something you could try asking Google.

Hello Lester,

We have used Gmail for Adagio emails since 2008 with Eudora 7.1 as the mapi server. Our settings are:
Outgoing SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com, Port 587, Connection security: STARTTLS.
Incoming: pop.gmail.com, Port 995, Security: SSL/TLS
Gmail cannot be used with the direct method because the security level cannot be set in Adagio.

Hi Lester,

Adagio Email setup with Google as Mail Host.

We use MS Outlook as the email client for Google Mail using IMAP folders. This configuration facilitates synchronization between our Google, MS Outlook & Blackberry devices without the need for MS Exchange or Blackberry Services. (Outlook Express should work the same)

MS OUTLOOK SETTINGS AS FOLLOWS:
Server Information
Incoming mail server (IMAP): imap.gmail.com
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com

More Settings

Outgoing Server Tab
Enabled - My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication,
Enabled - Use same settings as my incoming mail Server
Connection Tab
Enabled – Connect using my Local area network (LAN)

Advanced Tab
Incoming server (IMAP): 993
Enabled – This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)

Incoming server (SMTP): 587
Enabled – This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)

Server Timeouts
2 minutes 20 seconds

ADAGIO SETTINGS AS FOLLOWS:
Return Address: kerryg@iosgroup.com
Request receipt: - Enabled
Email method
MAPI : - Enabled
Mail Server: smtp.gmail.com
Display Name: IOS Consulting Group Inc.
Server requires authentication - Disabled
Account Name & Password – (are the same as used in MS Outlook)

Hope this helps. Good luck!

OK, SIMPLE solution.
you have a machine running an ssl tunnel to the gmail servers.

Someone apparently smarter than me has figured this out

URL: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Apps/thread?tid=1780781e814d05e6&hl=en

This solutions works like a champ

1) run program on server or other machine that is alway on.
2) configure stunnel
3) setup adagio with ythe IP address or hostname of the computer running stunnel in the "mail server" field

Thanks Lester. Glad this is working for you. One less thing to add to the R&D list.

I am trying to configure our AR module to work with gmail for statements. I had MAPI set up to run through Outlook as a work around but had to authenticate each and every email which is just not workable long-term (or even short-term). I have tried the Direct set up but am getting an error when I use port 587 or 25 and if I use port 465 it just hangs up the app. Here are the settings:

Mail server: smtp.gmail.com
Display name: (person's name)
Server requires Authentication: enabled
Acount name: email address of sender
Password: sender's password
Port: 465

I think this should be correct but I don't know why it is getting hung up. I've been trying to search for a solution. I have this set up in our Payroll application (PayDirt) for direct deposit stubs and it works but for some reason Adagio does not so I thought I might find some help on this Support Forum. Is it that Adagio is not SSL enabled? I am not particularly technical so perhaps the response from Lester will work for us? Any help would be appreciated.

I see Rick's response that Adagio Direct method cannot be used due to not being able to set the security level so then I have to use MAPI but I need to find a better solution then having to authenticate each email. How do I get around that?

Ideally Andrew, it would be nice to be able to set the security level so that Adagio works with gmail using the Direct method.

Hello Sage,

You don't have to use MAPI, Lester's work-around is documented.

In an ideal world, everything is possible because this is software!
