Are you on Windows Vista or Windows 7, and have User Account Control enabled? If so, then this is preventing your mapped network drives from being visible. You need to temporarily remove the User Account Control setting on your Windows in order to do the update, then after you are done, turn it back on.
It may be that you will need your IT person to assist in changing this setting, depending on the rights you have to your workstation.
