We have modified thousand of Customer Addresses in Excel and we are now importing them back in.

We are using the old style - i.e. we are not formatting the Addresses to North American style. Rather, we are using Address 1, 2, 3, 4 and Zip/Postal.

We are using AR 9.0a (090928).

The problem is that the Import is ignoring Address 4.
We are leaving it blank, yet the import is not removing the orignal Address 4 entries (which is what we want).
When I test this with Address 3 (by leaving it blank), the import works. But Address 4 does not.

Any suggestions?
Samuel

What are the fields you are importing (and in what order)? Do you include the city and province/state? Do you have "Format address" as the default in the company profile?

1. The fields (in the order of the spreadsheet): Customer Number, Address 1, Address 2, Address 3, Address 4, Zip/Postal Code.

2. I am not including City or Prov/State. (Should I?)

3. Format Address is not activated as the Default. (In other words, the Default is: Do not format addresses.)

Hi, Samuel,

Address line 4 is a special line reserved for City, Prov/State in formatted addresses.

However, try these steps:

1) Company Profile - Format Address? = off
2) Import Customers 'overwrite' with Address line 4 having 'something' in it (i.e. non-blank, even use TEST)

When you View the customer, it may appear that nothing has happened but it has. Then:

3) Company Profile - Format Address? = on
4) Import Customers 'overwrite' with Address line 4 having 'something' in it again (eg. the non-blank TEST)
5) View Customer and you'll see the formatted option for the customer is now 'off' and TEST is in Address line 4
6) Company Profile - Format Address? = off
7) Import Customers again, 'overwrite' this time having nothing in Address line 4 (i.e. it's 'blank')
7) View Customer and you'll see the formatted option for the customer is still 'off' and Address line 4 is now 'blank'.

You'll want to do this carefully and to check results at each step.

Wow - quite the process!
But, as long as the steps you mention are correct and in the appropriate order, I will have to give it a try.

(I won't be able to do this until this evening the earliest, so I will let you know eventually what happens.)

It worked!
I am not really sure why we had to go this round-about way, and I certainly would have never figured this out on my own.
Nonetheless, thanks again for your support!

For those reading this post, a hot fix was released today that will fix the import and address line 4 when choosing to import non-formatted addresses.

The above steps were meant to be a workaround until this fix became available, and now it is.
