We are using SBS 2003 with XP Pro workstations with several Adagio modules. After initially installing each module (as instructed each module was installed on the server from a workstation), I went to each of the other workstations and using allwkst.exe, set up the modules on each of the workstations. This works great - but my question is... once a module shows up on the workstation with the status "current" and is fully working without any problem, is there any way to remove a module only from that workstation so that allwkst.exe status reverts a status of "not installed"?

In other words, say for example I installed Ledger on a workstation using allwkst.exe and later decided I did not want Ledger to be installed on that workstation anymore. Can the allwkst.exe Ledger install be undone?

Hi Susan

Not without uninstalling the whole module on the network and
then re-installing.

But why would you ever want to do that? If this is a security issue, it should be handled through Adagio security itself, and not through the installation procedures. There's no harm done with installing everything.

Steve

You can also just delete the shortcuts off the workstation.

I see what you mean.. I tried uninstalling on a workstation and found out the hard way that it uninstalls the whole module on the network. We haven't set up Adagio security yet... it's on my to do list. I'll go with the deleting the shortcuts for now. Longer term it does seem to make sense to install all modules on all workstations, use the security and delete the shortcuts that won't be needed. Thanks.

Hi Susan,

The Adagio programs have to be installed on the server, not on each workstation. You risk data corruption in a multi-user scenario if the programs are installed on local workstations for each Adagio user.

If you don't want a particular user to access a certain Adagio program, use the network security to prevent access to the Adagio program directory. Say someone shouldn't use Ledger, deny access to the \softrak\Ledger directory on the network.

Hello All,

That's interesting... I could have sworn that only what I call the "master install" (to the server) would result in removal from the server if an uninstall was done from that same workstation. Whereas an uninstall from a PC that had been installed via a "workstation install" (and I thought "allwkst.exe" qualified as such) would result in the module(s) being removed from that particular PC leaving the server installation in tact.

Maybe "allwkst.exe" works differently from the "wksetup.exe" that can be used to do workstation installs for individual modules... or as is often the case I'm just loony :-) However just recently I uninstalled 2 modules from a PC and then went right back and reinstalled them via a workstation install and all was well - I did not have to re-inistall to the server.

Because I had believed the above to be true, I have tried whenever possible (and it's not always possible due to crashes etc.) to do server installs / upgrades from the same PC (or at most 2 different ones).

On another note, something I've been asking for is somewhat related to this topic so I'll give it a plug here again.

I believe that if the Adagio "powers that be" at a company chose not to do a workstation install of a specific module at a specific PC - then users should not be able to "accidentally" start the installation by "accidentally" picking it from the Adagio menu of another module that does belong on that PC.

While I know that "Network Security" could be configured to prevent the install from completing... Wouldn't it be easier to have the Adagio menu only display modules for which data exists (as it does now) AND the module has already been installed at the workstation ?

Regards, Pete

What Peter is describing above in his first paragraph is how my Adagio dealer advised me as well. He said specifically that using add/remove programs, as long as it wasn't the workstation where the main install was performed, will only remove the module from that particular workstation. When I did it however, it removed it from the whole network.
