I would Firstly many thanks to Martin (Rushton Computer Services) re. the excellent training manuals that I recently purchased - I have been putting off training my staff for the simple reason that I did not have the right training materials for them. The manuals have given me a starting point from which to get them familiar with Adagio.

I would like to copy my dataset and have my staff train and play around with it. I wanted to open up the security settings for the training dataset by creating a new "Training" user, but I find that this user - "Training" can also be used on the real dataset. I fear that they will be going into the real dataset under the Training username and doing things that they shouldnt be doing (accidentally or under a false sense of knowledge...).

What is the best way of allowing my staff to have complete access to the training dataset, but without compromising the real thing?

Security settings are not dataset specific, are they?

My dataset is saved under the \asp directory.

Hi Suresh,

The user names are defined 'globally', but the security is saved by data set. This is to allow exactly what you want to do; have a user access one data set but not another.

What you need to do is define a security group that will be designated for training, in the 'Training' data. Do not create this same security group in your real data. If the 'trainee' accidentally tries to login to the live data, they will get some sort of warning message and won't be able to get in.
