I am running Quiklink with Excel 97 under Windows NT. The program was performong well when I had Excel on my C drive, Quiklink on the I drive (which was a partition of the C drive) and Accpac on the I drive.

Recently, I installed a new hard drive which I labelled I. The partition was renamed F. I installed Accpac on the I drive, Quiklink on the I drive and Excel stayed on the C drive.

I have been having problems. I have created several new spreadsheets and I can't reload them once I've read data into them.

I can save them before reading the data and load them fine.

I have tried moving Quiklink to the C drive.

What is wrong? How do I fix it?

Dear Bal

Ideally, QL should be installed onto the same drive as Excel, however, after moving files & changing hard drives etc, you should always take the time to redefine your links.

If this still does not solve your problems, you could try these suggestions:
1. Re-install QL onto the same drive as your Excel
2. Reinitialize your data dictionaries
3. Always remember: Load & Save your worksheets using QL's Load & Save options, NOT Excel's

Refer to Chapter 1, Page 1-12+ in the QL manual on Redefining your Excel links, and page 2-4 explains more about when to reinitialize your data.

That should be all that is required.

I have been working with Quiklink for quite a while and have done all that you have suggested.

Any other suggestions?

When I try to open the saved file I get this message:

Application error excel.exe

Access violation : (0x0000005),Address: 0x100e0fd

Does that help?

Hi Bal,

It's possible that something has corrupted in the spreadsheet. We had one prior report of a worksheet not able to be loaded a second time, and it turned out that one of the sheets in the complicated workbook had become corrupted. When it was removed, all was OK, and the sheet had to be re-entered.

In this case, you would have to restore a copy of the workbook (including the {filename}.dnk file) and try again.

I have spent a lot of time on this and set up MANY spreadsheets - all of which are corrupt.

The corruption seems to occur when Quiklink saves the spreadsheet or closes it or tries to open it again.

When I open the spreadsheet with Excel (no Quiklink) and I am asked if I want to update my spreadsheet and I say "Yes", I get this message "Quiklink.xla contains an incomplete calculation".

Then I get a message that says:
"Microsoft Excel cannot find 'ACCPAC' on 'QUIKLINK.XLA'.
There are two possible reasons:
The name you specified may not be defined.
The name you specified is defined as something other than a rectangular cell reference."
Check the name and try again.

This seems like a bug to me and for the price of this program I expect it to work!

Dear Bal

The probability of a 'bug' in this case seems highly unlikely. You can ascertain this by installing QL on another workstation that has Excel on it. Try creating a NEW worksheet from scratch. A very basic one, or even do this on your system.

It seems that you have been using QL for a long time, so if you follow all the suggestions we have given you, it should work (especially if you have corrupt w/s's then you should follow the advice we gave on restoring a good copy of your worksheet).
You MUST redefine your links and direct QL to the proper directory/path. You MUST open and save your worksheets using QL, not Excel. You must follow the latest suggestions regarding your corrupt worksheets and how to get them back at the point where they were working.

I would strongly suggest that you 'start from scratch'. Find the good copies of your worksheets. Remove the Quiklink directory and reinstall QL onto the same drive as Excel7. Go through the procedures. Redefine your links. Open your good worksheets using QL's options.

If this still does not correct the problems, then we suggest contacting your local ACCPAC Dealer for assistance. We have done everything we can do from here to help you.

I have reinstalled Quiklink on the same drive as Excel. Re-established links are simply lost the next time I close the file. I have called and emailed my dealer for assistance and have had no reply.

The tone of your reply leaves something to be desired. I wouldn't be continuing the correspondence if I hadn't tried your suggestions.

Bal

Do you have network rights?

Can you replicate this on a different computer?
Is the data ok (ie have you run a DIC)?
Can you create a worksheet with sample data ok?
