Recently upgraded client to Payables V9.3B. No issue on workstation that the upgrade was actually done on.

When we went to another workstation to do the workstation install the install gets so far and then just stops and hangs and doesn't proceed any further.

Not sure what is going on.

I don't believe it to be a rights issue since they have full access to the server drive.

If any further information is needed let me know.

I have seen this a few times.

It’s almost definitely the anti-virus software causing the freeze.

Uninstall it (don’t just disable it) and try again. Then you can put it back.

Thanks Steve. Much appreciated. Now I have to deal with the wonderful IT guy on this one. What a way to start the weekend.

The issue likely isn't the network drive access. It's the local drive that the update is trying to install the reporting components on. Depending on where it's hanging, you could try installing the Crystal reporting engine manually using X:\Softrak\System\CR_InstallCommon\CRRuntime_32bit_13_0_25.msi. If that works, then re-run the workstation update. If it still doesn't finish, note where it's hanging and report back.

Thanks Dan for the input. Well before I do that we have tried disabling the anti virus. That didn't work. We now have tried uninstalling the anti virus as per Steve's suggestion and still it will not go.

It always hangs on the same spot (again we initiate the workstation setup file from the Payables folder WKSETUP on the server) and hangs on this spot:

Current File
Skipping Install Data Dict Help Locally
C:\..\System\DataDictionaryExporter.chm

All File
Time remaining 0 minutes 0 seconds

At this point nothing is happening.

All other workstation for the update went OK. So something on this workstation it doesn't like. FWIW the machine in question is Windows 7 Pro (yes Win 7 now not supported) so maybe that has something to do with it.

As per your suggestion on the Crystal Runtime should it be copied locally first before being run?

Thanks in advance..

It shouldn't need to be copied locally. Run X:\Softrak\System\chksys.exe and click View Session details to confirm if Crystal finished installing and is indeed version 13.0.25.
If not, run the CR runtime like I said, and if it completes the install then redo the workstation install.

I think some may have been able to install 9.3B on W7, but I tried at one site and it failed to install Crystal 25. So I wouldn't spend another minute troubleshooting an unsupported operating system when the client will likely spend less just upgrading to W10 pro than the time its worth troubleshooting it. The Windows upgrade should be done anyway, just for security purposes.

I have Payables 9.3B using Crystal 13.0.25 running successfully on a Windows 7 computer here in the office, but it's a simpler environment - no server, just the workstation.

Support: Can you put together a set of recommendations for installing, both initial installation and workstation installations? In the world of AP 9.3B the old methods no longer seem to work and a lot of time is spent wrestling with these issues.

To follow up on Bruce's post and to reply to Dan the other workstations that successfully loaded the workstation install not only are Windows 7 Pro machines but also had the anti virus running when the install was happening.

Why this one workstation is putting up a fight I don't know.

I will go ahead and load the Crystal Runtime V25 manually to see if this wins us any battles.

If that doesn't work would uninstalling Payables or any other Adagio module from this workstation and re running the workstation install from the server be a viable solution or at least a suggestion?

It wasn't clear in your post that the other workstations were W7. I assumed when you pointed out the failed machine was W7, you meant it was a difference between it and the successful workstations. I guess I shouldn't have assumed.
Did you actually run chksys.exe to see if the Crystal install completed on the first wksetup attempt or if it's still showing the previous version? It might not even be that Crystal is the issue. But for this upgrade, it seems to be the issue that pops up the most.
It is often extremely difficult to troubleshoot this type of issue over the forum, because there are so many variables that are being assumed.
