Can anyone tell me how to link the AR 'Transaction file' with the TB 'File' file?

Here's a Workspace that does it. Is this what you need?

Actually...I was doing a Crystal Report to put in the CustomRP folder.

The TB File file has only one index "Cust/File" and there doesn't appear to be a matching field in the AR Transaction file.

Perhaps if I explain my problem...

My customer is using Time & Billing, this means that the Customer Aged Trial Balance and Vendor Open Payables both show detail by Docket (File). In turn, this results in very long reports as there is no way to suppress Dockets (Files) that have a zero balance, only customers/vendors...no, the customer does not want to purge those dockets that are currently zero balance.

I have created a Crystal Report which only shows details for those dockets with an outstanding balance, but I can only get the docket number from the AR Transaction file...the name field eludes me.

Hi Tony,

Without having a dataset that exhibits the problem, I'm shooting in the dark, but here goes...

Have you considered just changing the ATB to suppress the $0.00 balance Dockets? That might be easier.

Another possibility is to create a subreport that gets the Docket name. You need the Client and Docket number to retrieve the name, both of these are in the AR Transaction file.

BTW - for those interested in doing this in GridView, the formula to get the name from the Docket file is:
Code:
GETEXTERNALDATA("@B81CDCK", "Docket Name", "TBCLNT", {Cust #} , "TBDOCKET", {Docket code})

Thanks Andrew:

Turns out...the client is quite happy without the name and especially likes how quick the report is!

I did look at modifying the existing ATB, but with so many headers and footers based on all the possible combinations of options, it didn't look like 'value for effort' in this case.

I appreciate the assistance!
