I am using GL 9.0C (100511) With previous versions I have printed the Posting Journal and the Batch Status Report to a file, rather than the printer and have then been given the option of clearing the posting journal. Now I am forced to print to the printer in order to clear. It does not matter whether "Allow post journal purge" is turned on or off - in both cases I must print to the printer. I have not previously printed the posting journal or the batch status report, nor do I want a hard copy of them. Can you help me save a few trees?

What is the setting of the "Allow posting journal purge" in the Company profile. If it is "Off" then you will not be given an opportunity to purge regardless of the destination. At year end Adagio Ledger will just purge the file (with a suitable warning).

The "Allow post journal purge" is "on". (the box is ticked) When I try to close the fiscal year, I have the message "Posting Journal - must print and clear first". The "Proceed" button is greyed out so I MUST print and clear before I can move on. And the only way I can clear it is to print to the printer. Printing to a file (or the screen) does not produce the option of clearing the journal.

How are you choosing to print to file? When I do this from the Print window by selecting a Print Destination of File going to any of Word, Excel, HTML and then use the Print button, I receive the prompt asking me if I want to purge (yes, I have the 'Allow posting journal purge' option enabled in my Company Profile too).

However, Adagio nevers gives the prompt when someone uses the Preview button. So, if you are using the Preview button and then selecting the Export button in the toolbar to print to file that way, you will never be prompted to clear/purge posting journals.

Is this what's happening?

If you set the "Allow posting journal purge" to "Off", then the year end function will just purge the posting journal on the expectation that you have properly printed and stored it.

I will answer both of the previous points in this comment. I am not using preview. I am using the print command and printing to "file". I have tried the output in excel, HTML and word and none make any difference. I do not get the option of "clearing" after I have printed.
Andrew, I tried setting "Allow posting journal purge" to "off" and the posting journal and the unpost journal are now "OK" when I go to "Close Current Fiscal Year" but the Batch Status Report must still be printed and cleared. And of course, no matter where I print it to, I cannot clear it. However, I don't mind printing the batch status report to paper - it is only a couple of pages. It was the 145 page posting journal that I really really didn't want to have to print to the printer! So I am good to go and I appreciate the difficulty when you are unable to duplicate the problem on your end. Thanks for your help.

In order to complete the year end;

It should be completely unnecessary to print and purge the posting journals as you had the option to purge them turned off. Year end would just purge them for you.

The batch status report must always be printed and purged. There is no other option for thuis report.
