Is this for Finanical Reporter or GridView? Both have a 'hide when printed' format. I assume financial statements.
Perhaps you can go to the View menu and Customize, and on the Display Settings screen, highlight the 'Hide when Printed' text at the bottom left. From here you can specify a colour to associate with the 'Hide when printed' status.
If you select a column, does the 'Hide when printed' option on the pop-up menu show a checkmark? If not, then you just need to select it. If so, then perhaps you can un-select and re-select it?
Does this also occur from a new blank sheet, if you format a column to 'hide when printed'? Perhaps there is a format on your sheet that is over-riding the 'hide when printed' for some reason, though we are unaware that this has happened before.
