A/R Customer lookup, using Smart Finder (F6) on a database with 25,000+ Customers:

- On my stand-alone laptop I can search by Name, Contact or Tel # and Adagio comes back with the results in under 5 seconds.
- The same search on the same database, on the client's computer in a network environment, takes 65 seconds.

Both computers are XP with plenty of RAM.
So, I have to say that the jam has something to do with their network.

Any else have this problem, and any suggestions to speed the system (other than replacing the server).

Networks will take twice to three times as long for the same search as a local search, assuming they are fairly new. It'sprobably not an issue with the server, but the network hubs and routers. Replace them with Gigabit switched hubs to get something to transfer the data up the wire.

Also, consider GridView and GridView Server if this is a common requirement (although I will admit that this solution is probably about the same price as buying a new server). Perhaps they might also consider renumbering their customer codes so that they can use the Finder to "guess" at a customer code from the name.
