Goodmorning,
Package - Gridview 8.0E(061017)
When attempting to create a new view with Gridview (File->New), I receive the following error message:
Msgbox title - Adagio Gridview "This function cannot be performed."
Any ideas?
I can perform operations in other modules (o/e, a/r) without issue.
Thank you.

It sounds like you need to add the "/c" parameter to the command line of your gridview shortcut. Right click on the shortcut and choose "Properties". On the "Shortcut" tab in the "Target" box add a "/c" after the path to exe file.
The result should look like this: M:\Softrak\GVWIN\GVWin.exe /c
(where M is your drive letter).

The /c got it to work, thank you Ryan.
I wonder why the installer, when creating the shortcuts, doesn't include the parameter value, "/c"? Is it only required in certain situations?
Thanks again Ryan.

Hi Supportguy,
By "installer" do you mean the person who installed the programs, or the application install process?
The special parameter on the command line is only required for those people with the authority to modify Views, and to look at all the accounting data.

Hi Andrew,
I understand the requirement of the switch now, and why the installer (the software installer) does not include it in the install.
I believe my confusion arose because I would typically launch Gridview from another module (ie. O/E), which would then allow me to create new Views at leisure. Is this the expected behavior?
On another note, is the /C modification to the shortcut the only measure in place to prevent another user from taking a peek at all the accounting data, or does the usermanager kick in at that point to determine what can be read?
Thank you

Hi Supportguy,
Under File | Users you can control whether a particular user is allowed to modify a View once GridView is launched from within an Adagio module (the equivalent of putting "/c" on the command line).
If you can modify the View, you can create Views into any of the accounting modules. Unfortunately, there's no further simple method of restricting data access.
