Hi Fong,

The usual reason for this message is that when printing a report, the work file necessary for the report already exists in the data directory or your local temp file on the workstation. Try purging out old temp files from your workstation to see if this clears it up. Also try printing the same report from sample data, so we can determine if there is something in general wrong with the program or environment, or more specific to your data.

I have no temp file that's related to IC on my workstation.
Where else should I look?
I have no problem preview/print from sample data.

Hi Fong,

Thanks for checking out sample data - this helps to isolate the situation and likely related to your live data directory.

The temp work file that gets created in your data while the Item Valuation report is building is ICKC0002.dat (or perhaps another 4-digit number instead of 0002). If you see a file similar to this in your data directory, rename the file extention to something else - make sure nobody is in Inventory when you do this.

Some reports in Adagio build a work file in the data directory and move it to the local workstation temp directory when completed. If something on your system halted during the creation of this file, this could have caused it to not get cleared properly and leave it behind.

Is this the only Inventory report that is causing you problems, or are there others?

Thank you for your support. I haven't tried to run other reports yet. Actually we don't run the item valuation report in Adagio. We've been using ACCPAC+'s Report Master. This Adagio report fails to print/preview on 4 data sets(we have 4 branches). I've mentioned this problem to our consultant many months before. I guess she either has forgotten the issue or hasn't found a solution yet.

The Report Master report will not work with Inventory Control V8.0B as this version moves the historical transaction file to a different location. Why are you not using the Adagio Item Valuation report? It can print the item valuation "as at" any date.

Hello Fong,

Did you check to see if there were any temporary files as suggested by our Technical Support department?

I don't see any ICKC data file anywhere in any drives. Not even in the Sample Data.

OK I think we've found the reason for the problem, so posting the investigation results here.

Essentially, the data is corrupted - there are a number of items that have multiple records for the same item and same location. An example in your database is for item 582; if you use Item Inquiry to look at the quantities on hand from the Quantities screen, you will see location 1 listed twice, once with quantity 0 and the other with 34,950.

The Item Valuation report uses the ICILOC (Quantity by Location) file so when it came across duplicated records, it gave an error. If you continued past this error, you would get it again and again for every item that has this data problem for the item. Eventually the report would print, but you might have to see this Temporary File error many many times until it does. During this time, the correct report workfile ICKC0002 is being built.

As it turns out, the data integrity check in Adagio Inventory was not finding these errors and it should have. Rebuild cannot fix these integrity errors.
