Question: On Adagio specifications such as Check Specs or Invoices, I would like to print the Postal code / Zip code immediately to the right of the City and Province/State, not underneath it. Are there special formatting codes I can use to do this?

Answer: No, there are no special formatting tricks to print the postal/zip code appended to the city. The reason is that Adagio specifications are object-oriented, meaning each object is independant to all others. You cannot associate one object with another. You can overlap field placement, but there is no guarantee to text spacing or overlapping.

Solution: You can edit the database record that contains the City and enter the Postal/Zip code in that Address line field as well. Thus whenever you print specifications or reports that have the address, you will always see the postal/zip code right next to the city. Also remove the Postal/Zip code field from the specification so that it does not print twice. It is useful to continue to keep the Postal/Zip code on the record's address so that you can use this for reporting (ie filtering or selecting management reports by Postal/Zip code).

Perhaps the idea of having a "trim and combine fileds" function of some kind in all the form designers would be something that could be added to the "wish list" for R&D.

Hi Ralph,

Unfortunately, it's not the designer, but the print engine that prints these reports that's really the problem. We might be able to do something if we had specific fields for City and State/Prov - but then international addresses woul be a problem.

We have been chatting about various different ways of solving this though.
