this is in three different data bases

We have inventory items that show no cost but a quantity on hand.
We have inventory items that show cost but no quantity on hand.
Some items on our drop down screen of inventory costing have lot 1 with negative inventory & cost.
Lot 2 shows receipt & positive quantity & inventory. The average cost shows as lot 2 divided by on hand amount less the cost of lot one. Lot 2 will not move up.
We have work arounds to fix most of these by making adjustments but my concern is the cause. How do we stop this happening on what appears to be a totally random basis.
Is there an easy fix or do we adjust our heads off?

Hi Bruce,

Using GridView, identify the items where the LIFO/FIFO buckets have a problem. After a dayend has been run in OrderEntry, carefully enter an adjustment batch to get the FIFO/LIFO buckets sorted out and the costs/quantities in line. Post the adjustment batch.

Turn off the option to allow inventory to go negative in Inventory's company profile, or resign yourself to making regular adjustments.

Further to Andrew's answer:

If you find that you are allowing negative inventory because items need to be shipped/sold before the invoice shows up, consider a PO program. Both Purchase Orders for Adagio and PO Tracker allow receipts to be posted to Inventory at the PO cost then adjusted later when the invoice arrives.

This could eliminate the need for negative inventory and the intevitable adjustments

Hi Bruce

I am going to share with you one of my favorite tricks for cleaning up LIFO/FIFO buckets such as those you describe.

Create a new Account Set in IC called "Clean up LIFO/FIFO". Make sure it is using the Moving Average method of costing. Don't worry about the GL accounts - it is a dummy account set.

Change the messed up item's account set to this new account set, and say OK to the change. Then change it back its original account set, and save. Voila!

To Andrew: Is there any way other way to identity the LIFO/FIFO buckets except using GridView?
To Bruce: Should your suggestion be done after or before the Day end?

Always make changes and adjustments to inventory after Day End.
