The govt. is now debating the introduction of a sales tax. I have not set up any tax tables as yet, however, I need to start planning the process. My question is when I set up tax tables, how do I get my existing items to reflect which ones are taxable and which ones are not. Do I need to edit each item or do I do an export/import?

I'm assuming all items are currently setup with the same tax status.

It depends on the answer to these two questions - approximately how many items are taxable for a taxable customer? How many are not taxable? If the answer to either question is under 50, then it is easier to edit each item than it is to do an export/import. You would leave the majority alone, and change the remaining items to a new tax status.

By default when you created items and customers the tax status was set to "0" since you had no reason to change it.

Therefore, determine what tax regime will apply to the majority of the items and cuwstomers and make that status "0." Then you will only have to change the status for the "exceptions-to=-the-rule."
