Help!!! We had a brown-out on Tuesday and have had BIG problems since. Two computers in the office completely freeze and need to be shut down whenever we try to print, or print preview in ANY module. Other programs, such as excel, word print without issue on both of these computers. I can log in as myself on other computers in the office and can print in Adagio without the shut down. We had our computer tech in the office for 3 hrs. yesterday and he was stumped. We are set up through a network. Any suggestions as far as what could possibly have gone wrong or changed in these computers to affect such a problem?

If you have not already done so try shutting down all workstations and the server so that all running processes are removed from memory.

Have your workstations 'Temp' folders cleaned out.

Buy good UPS's for all workstations and servers so that next time you have a brown out it does not affect your computers this way.

Hi Douglas,
We've started the computers and server MANY times, and all temp files were deleted. Since the computers are freezing ONLY when in Adagio, I was hoping there would be suggestions as to settings our tech could be checking into that possibly are corrupted or merely changed. Or, even suggestions as to things we should be looking into that would be unrelated to the brown out, since only 2 of our computers are affected.
Thanks for your suggestions. I appreciate any help!

Karen:

Have you tried uninstalling Adagio on the 2 computers in question? If not, uninstall the software through the Windows Control Panel. Then run the Adagio workstation set-up again. This is very quick.

Let us know if that makes a difference.

Hi Bruce,

Yes, our tech did the uninstall, and reinstall of all the modules yesterday. Didn't help.

Hi,

From the Workstations that are having the problem run CHKSYS.EXE form the ..\Softrak\System folder on the Network where Adagio is installed.

Adagio uses Crystal reports and the local machine must be set up correctly. Doing a Workstation install on the troublesome stations should have fixed the problem, CHKSYS will verify that all expected files are where they should be and report anything that is incorrect.

Hi Karen,

Try printing/previewing the company profile report in an Adagio app - this is the simplest report to print from a technical sense. If this doesn't work, then there no other reports could work either. Michael's notes are correct that CHKSYS should be run.

Perhaps try doing the re-install of the Adagio application from one of the trouble workstations.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions!

The computers that "froze" were running Windows 2000. All others XP Pro. So, we changed the Windows 2000 to XP on those computers....all is now running "fairly" smoothly. Problems with very slow printing of the reports now....at least it's better than not running the reports at all!

Hi Karen,

It's possible that during the move from Windows 2000 to Windows XP on the workstation that a new printer driver was selected. Perhaps the problem was there.

When you say that the reports are taking a long time to print - which reports (specifically) are you talking about?

Maybe this is coming too late, but try uninstalling your antivirus software to see if that has an effect. I have had a number of clients complain about printing problems that went away after the antivirus software was uninstalled (and eventually a new brand was re-installed).

Andrew and Steve,

The antivirus software was an issue months ago, and our Adagio consultant set it so it never scans Adagio. That solved the immediate problem, but perhaps created another by not allowing Adagio files to be scanned???

Andrew, I must have confused you. We didn't move from Windows 2000 to XP before the problem. We made the move after experiencing the problem. Nobody has been able to asses why it was only the computers running 2000 that were so badly affected by the storm. It was even suggested by our technician that perhaps it was just "timing"....who knows?

As far as the reports running slowly now, after the change....I'm referring to printing batch listings and the posting journals in all modules.

Thanks again for all your help! The "personal touch" certainly makes owning and using Softrak more appealing than other software!

Hi Karen,

My comment about the move to XP was because there are often new printer drivers installed in that move (or perhaps the Win2K ones were damaged in the storm). As regards thevirus scanning, I don't think there is any way that a virus could "attach" itself to an Adagio data file. However, every week or so, I do a complete (including files in ZIPs) virus scan of my hard disk just to be sure.

Since posting journals and batch listings make up the majority of the reports, maybe there's something in the printer or network itself? Printing the company profile in each application is the simplest of the Crystal reports. 99% of the time is spent in getting Crystal loaded and the various interfaces out to the printer. Does the company profile report print slowly too?

Actually Karen's system scans all files during scheduled scans, but excludes Adagio related files on both server and workstations from realtime scanning.

New printer setup for XP used a PCL driver, which threw off spacing for checks. We changed default printer to one using the original driver - HP LJ 2100.

All of Adagio is slower now, including printing. The network technician warned that this might happen after changing to XP. Anyone else have this experience?
