1011 Error

We're getting an error I've never seen before in Order Entry and Inventory. Occasionally when looking up an inventory item, a 1011 Critical error (insufficient rights?) message is displayed. This has happened on multiple workstations using different users. It also does not happen every time.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Lucas

Hi Lucas,
We've seen this error within Inventory for a few reasons: - A temporary file was not cleared out of the data directory, thus when a process is trying to create it, the file already exists. You mentioned looking up an item - does this mean using the SmartFinder on the item number field? If so, then get everyone out of Adagio, then if you see any files in the data directory of the form OEF### or ICF### (where ### is a 3-digit number), then delete them. If not the SmartFinder, please post the function you are trying to do when the error appears. - Novell is the network in use and service packs for the workstation client are not up to date. - An old Accpac Plus add-on application Item Number Change was in use and pending changes had not been cleared. This only occurred for older versions of Adagio Inventory.
Try these and post your results, including the resolution if you find the cause of the errors.

The problem occurs when selecting items from the item number field. It has happened in OE and IC. I found a number of OEF### and ICF### files in the data directory and deleted them. Immediately afterwards, the problem occurred again when selecting an item from the item number field in Order Entry (Display Items With Costs).
We are not using Novel Networks.
We used to use Accpac Item Number Change but stopped some time ago when the Adagio IC data format was changed.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Lucas

Hi there,
Not a solution, but some more info on this problem. It happened again today while I was the only one using the system. I rebooted the server and the problem still occured. I noticed that I am getting the error only when I use the smart finder in "Items With Sales and Costs", and not when selecting just "Items".
Any help?
Thanks,
Lucas

Hello Lucas,
What fields are showing in your finder Grid when you are selecting an item. Are you using the regular finder (F5 or down arrow), or the SmartFinder (F6)?

Hi Lucas,
The 'Edit Items' and 'Item Inquiry' screens use different layouts for their grids, including the F5 and F6 finders. But the SmartFinder is keyed to the field (ie Item number), so it would use the same files for Edit and Inquiry Item. You indicated that Item Inquiry with Sales/Costs, accessed from OrderEntry (not IC) is giving the problem.
- When precisely are you getting the error? Immediately after pressing F6 on the Item Inquiry screen? Or when opening the SmartFinder screen and on clicking the Search button? Or another time? - If you use Adagio Inventory, do you get a similar error doing a SmartFinder search for Display Items with Costs? - Do you get the error logging into Adagio as SYS, as another user, or all users?
Something else you may want to do is try to remove any edits to your grids, such as the SmartFinder grid for Item Inquiry in OE. If you can get to the F6 SmartFinder screen without getting the error, edit the grid with the Column Editor (by double-clicking on the grey title bar). click the Reset button to put the columns back. Or if you get an error immediately upon opening the screen, you'd have to go through a back door. Edit the OEWIN.INI file in \softrak\oewin and look for a section starting with [grdSmartFinderICItems] or something like it. This is where column edits are saved. Delete this section header and all rows underneath it until you get to the next section with [].
The purpose of trying this is to see if a saved grid layout no longer conforms to the way the dictionary is laid out, due to an upgrade.

Here's a run down of the facts so far.
-The problem has been happening in OE and IC. -It is intermittent. -It has happened on multiple workstations with different users using different usernames. -It happened to me yesterday while I was the only one using the system. -It has happened when using the smart finder and when typing in a part number after selecting "Find". -It appears to only happen (in OE and IC) when selecting "Inquiries", "Items With Sales and Costs" and not when just selecting "Items" -When it happens, the item number is highlighted on the grid, the error message pops up, and after closing the error window, the item inquiry window opens with no data in it. -Deleting the mentioned files and rebooting had no effect. -I have been unable to reproduce the error on purpose. -When it does occur I don't know what causes it to go away. Yesterday, closing and opening IC had no effect. Right now everything seems to be working fine.
???????
We have made edits to the grid, so I will reset that to default and see if it makes a difference.
Thanks,
Lucas

Another update. It happened again after resetting the grids to default.
Thanks,
