Is it possible to be working in receipts in inventory while working with Invoicing in Order Entry?

Yes, you can be entering orders in Order Entry and receiving the same items into Inventory at the same time.

Once the receipt is posted, when you open the detail line again, you will see updated quantity on hand and available numbers.

Please give details as I am getting a message that the record is in use by Order Entry when I try to enter a receipt. We only recently acquired Adagio and are still in the testing phase

Hello CPS,

Are you ALWAYS getting the message, or just once in a while? It is possible to get a locking conflict if someone is posting an invoice for an item that is being receipted. The message will clear once one of the processes has completed.

Hello CPS,

Something is not correct in the setup, or there's some kind of procedural issue. Contact a Softrak Business Partner for assistance, there's a list on the web site.

I have contacted the Adagio Consultant. He feels it may be a question of the security settings on the server itself. We are operating on a Linux system. We also have issues with installation of upgrades, I keep getting the messages that the file can not be opened. When I check the property of the named file it is set to read only.

Could this be the issue with the posting of the inventory receipts?
I have also wondered if the groups the users are in and the permissions granted to the group?

For your question on installing upgrades to a Linux server, you do need to remove the read-only attributes for Adagio program files before installing upgrades or additional new applications. Unlike Windows, Linux really won't let an installation over-write files with a read-only attribute. The Adagio install would have to not install any files with a read-only attribute, and until this is changed, you would have to go through this procedure manually.

As for your Inventory Receipts vs. Order Entry question, it seems very reasonable that files with read-only attributes would cause problems in writing to those files.

CPS:

In particular make sure you remove the read-only attribute from EZ*.* in \softrak\system since that may affect file & record locking.

(If this used to an ACCPAC Plus installation, also check the same files in \asp.)

During posting the program requires exclusive access to certain files, but only for the moment. Although posting of an invoice would momentarily lock the files, they would be released immediately, and the other module could proceed. Given the message you receive, it sounds like some file is not released by OE and that is definitely a configuration issue. Have you checked data integrity? In a similar situation a bad network connection resulted in one workstation posting orders and locking out the others because it would send bad data to a file and then the file would be unusable.
