A specific setting for Excel 2000 macro security will prevent Quik Link from opening. A third, more exclusive setting has been added to Excel 2000 that automatically prevents unregistered macros from being run, and because Quik Link qualifies as such, it cannot be opened.

Macro security can be found in Excel 2000 under the Tools menu, choose Macros, then Security. The 'High' level is the new option, and having this set will prevent Quik Link from operating. You must set macro security to either Medium or Low. Setting this to Medium will bring up a message asking if you want to Disable or Enable macros; choose Enable to allow Quik Link to open. Setting this to Low will automatically load Quik Link.

The High security setting will prevent Quik Link from opening even if the 'Allow all macros from trusted sources' checkbox is selected on the Trusted Sources tab.

Note for users of Excel for Office 97 or earlier: Macro security is found in a different place, from Options under the Tools menu, on the General tab. There is a checkbox for macro security. This checkbox does not exist in Excel 2000.
