GV should allow us to attach to an Excel sheet.
Apparently, we would make this happen in GV by selecting File > New External.

No matter what I do, File > New External remains dim on my system, and I cannot select it.

Question: How do make File > New External an active choice, so that I can create a View from an Excel sheet?

Make sure that "Include External Tables" is enabled under Edit | Defaults.
