Hey Guys,

We are utilizing our Inventory Control module to be our item master for our WMS/MES. We do not see a Ti-Hi fields in to be specified on the item level to inform our WMS how to build pallets. If this is not on the roadmap to add either in the unit tab or separate tab, is it possible to add 3 more additional optional fields so we can make this work ourselves. We are already utilizing all the currently available optional fields.

Please let me know if this is the best resolution for this and the viability of adding 3 alphanumeric optional fields.
Thank you,
Jason

Hello Jason,

The easiest way to add as many optional fields as you want to Inventory is to create and Excel Spreadsheet or Access database to hold the data, and then link the Adagio record and Excel/Access record using the item number and do whatever calculations are needed.

Since you have GridView-RW, you can also investigate using SQLSync to keep you tables synchronized. You may need to contact your Adagio Consultant about how SQLSync operates.

I am moving this into the Tech Support Forum so I can attach a GridView Workspace example.

So it sounds like adding additional optional fields is not an option then?

We are already using SQL Sync, that said we would like to use it only for reporting purposes and have the adagio database be the main source and control point for our items. Not some excel/access file that would need to be separately maintained.
Thank you,
Jason

Hi Jason,

I cannot speak to R&D priorities and certainly there is no lack of suggestions for new fields for Inventory Control. The problem is usually that people don't just want new fields added to the database, they want to be able to do things with the new data elements - have them appear on a report or form for example. Also, the usual R&D cycle for a packaged software product is measured in months and sometimes years, and modification requests in this forum are usually looking at a shorter timeframe.

Here is a GridView Workspace and Excel spreadsheet that demonstrates this with the sample data. One View is into the Item master, the other is the Excel sheet with extra fields. Each View highlights missing (or extra) records in red.

I post it just as a simple example of what might be accomplished in case it is useful for others.

Hello,

Are you asking how to import data into Excel? There's lots of video and descriptions on the web about this process.

In order to make the GridView Workspace work like the example I posted, you need to make sure that the Excel sheet has a column containing the item number as it is in you item master. (And you need GridView of course! wink )

I actually would like to learn how to link to an Excel sheet's data to expand upon the lack of Optional fields that are provided by Adagio IC as you describe above.

(I did look at your example but received a "data set does not exist" error)
