We have three branches, one is currently on Multi-Currency, and we are looking to get the other two using it at the end of May. Could you advise if there is a set/written down procedure for turning it on in the different modules. We currently run Adagio in the following modules:

Ledger, Receivables, Payables, Inventory, Purchase Orders (Purple), Order Entry, Sales Analysis, and GridView.

Any heads-up on pitfalls/surprises would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Hello Barb9,

As this is really a technical support question, I will move your post into that forum.

I am adding to Barb's quest for information on conversion to multi currency from non-multi currency Adagio. I am hearing this is a nightmare as there is no easy way to just convert to multi currency & bring your history along. This must be some incorrect information as I cannot believe your two versions are not compatible. Please correct this erroneous assumption for me.
Thanks Bruce

Hi Bruce,

Consider the assumption corrected. Turning on MC doesn't change anything in the database, it just changes the behaviour of the applications going forward. You'd do Ledger first, then Payables and Receivables, then Inventory and OrderEntry etc.

There is no way to change the home currency of a client without doing a database repair. Sometimes clients do not like having "DOS" as their home currency.

I think Andrew missed the fact that if you just turn on multi-currency all those vendors and customers that you have called USD or GBP or W.H.Y. (typically by way of a Control Account Set) remain as single currency (DOS) customers and vendors when now you want them to be multi-currency (USD or GBP or W.H.Y.) customers and vendors.

To do this properly takes time as there is no easy fix. To only option open to the end user is to create new multi-currency customers and vendors but this means abandoning the customer and/or vendor history.

Hi Doug,

OK, I answered the question that was asked, but probably not the question that was meant. You're right, there is no way in Adagio to change the currency of a Vendor. As I mentioned, if you want to change the currency of a vendor or customer, it must be treated as a database repair (to maintain the history), or you must create a new customer for the transactions going forward. This is the only way to maintain the accounting integrity of the database.

SO AS A DATA BASE REPAIR HOW DOES ONE GO ABOUT THIS.
The end result I want is to have three not one data base into multi currency. I would love to keep the history on the vendors intact. There are no customers to deal with.

I may be doing all of this for the wrong reasons. My end objective is to merge all three data bases & set the branches into departments. The switch to multi currency I saw as a step in that direction. I now think I will have to just do this at the time of merging. I know KOM will not allow the merge of multi & non multi currency vendors therefore I was going to change this first.

If you are trying to merge three separate databases, and change the currencies on various vendors, and preserve the history, you should involve the services of an Adagio 3rd Party Developer who sould be able to do all of this programmatically.
