Hello:

I feel I should know this but I don't.

When I export a GridView query to Excel, the column total is a number rather than a formula. The "ExcelDirect as table (XL 2007 or later)" option = On.

When I use ExcelDirect on a grid, the Excel table has Subtotal() as a formula for the totals. This makes the Excel Filter function more effective.

Question: How can I configure GridView to export a column total as a formula?

Hi Bruce,

The likely reason for the difference is that Adagio grids do not have subtotal rows, and ExcelDirect inserts them. GridView views do have subtotal rows that could contain the total or minimum or maximum or average value. There are no options for sending values vs calculations to the Excel sheet, as there are for the Financial Reporter.

I will write up your suggestion for R&D.

Thank you for looking into this issue. It's a little strange that it hasn't come up more frequently. Filters in Excel are such a powerful tool.

Hi Bruce,

Definitely an oversight.

In the interim, if you Disable "Excel Direct as Table" in the F2-Defaults dialog, you get the formulas in the total row (but you don't get the data as a table with Filters).

As I said, an oversight that will be remedied in the next Upgrade.

Thank you Andrew. I'll keep that option in mind and watch for the next GV upgrade.
