Briefly, I double-click on a key field in the first View that is linked to a second View. The second View is using the table: “GL Transactions w/Master, Dept (RO)”.
The link and the Workspace is working.

Every time we lookup the data that we are searching for, it takes about 25 seconds on my laptop to refresh (and longer at the client).
There are about 600,000 detail records in the second GV file and growing.

Any recommendations to speed this up?

Hi Sam,

By using the Composite table that includes the Chart of accounts and Department list with each transaction, you are reading 6 files for every transaction record. Since you are displaying the transactions by clicking on another table (presumably the chart of accounts, you don't really need the GL account description in the transaction View. Just changing that should improve the performance a bunch.

Could you use the File | Gather files for support menu choice to package up the Workspace and data and upload it to http://www.softrak.com/dbr to my attention so that I can take a look?

Thanks

Edit Reason: Added para about Composite table.

Follow-up: I modified this GVS, so that the second GV file opens "GL Posted Transactions" table (instead of the earlier-mentioned table).
We are displaying the same data, but now it takes 10 seconds to perform a Refresh (versus 25 seconds previously).

This is just from switching the one table that Andrew suggested, for the lookup of the data.

Andrew - thank you for your advice. This has been very helpful.

Samuel:

Are you using the 64-bit version of GV? If the user's computer has 8 GB or more of RAM, you will likely see an improvement in processing (because GV is very reliant on the amount of free memory).

Hi Bruce: Good to hear from you.
You are correct. On my laptop, there is a further time saving using GVWin64.
Thank you for the suggestion.

Hi Sam,

I improved the performance by creating an Excel spreadsheet containing just the records that might be of interest in the linked View (the result of the Job2Lookup Filter) which contains just 56,000 or so transactions. Then I created a View to the XLSX rather than the GL transactions. The transactions display in a couple of seconds, even with the 32-bit version of GV.

You could create a batch file to refresh the XLSX overnight or at the click of a mouse button and then load the workspace.
