When cutting payroll cheques in Paydirt - how does AP find out what cheque numbers are used? Is this purley a manual process?

Thank you,
Richard

Hi Richard,

Yes, it is a manual process for cheques.

In PayDirt's help file:

To turn on the option to track cheque numbers go to the Setup -> Company Settings -> General Options -> Payroll Batch Options tab and turn on the checkbox that says "Remember Starting Cheque Number For Batches".

Note: you would normally only do this if you have separate cheques for payables and payroll. If instead, payables and payroll are sharing the same stack of cheques (and cheque numbers) it is better to leave this option off so that you don't accidentally use cheque numbers in payroll that have already been printed in payables.

If it's an issue you don't want to deal with, you can set up to use blank cheque stock in both AP and Payroll and have different number series in both. Or just isolate a box of your pre-printed cheques for Payroll only so AP doesn't mix in.

It's purely a manual process, and we'd strongly recommend using blank cheque stock and different sequence numbers for Payroll and AP if you have to print cheques. Direct deposit is simpler and less error prone.

I will also add to Andrew's comment that PayDirt has a function to sync the Direct Deposit bank submission numbers with Adagio AP automatically. So that's another benefit of Direct Deposit. Not to mention emailed payslips to save paper.

I agree, direct deposit is much better! I wish! At least we have cut it down to 1 or 2 cheques so that's a big improvement.

The suggestion to use a different set of sequence numbers is spot on. I didn't think of that.

I'll have to look into that Dan thank you for the information.

No problem. Your consultant should be able to help you get set up on blank stock if that's what you decide. For now you can do the separate piles or boxes idea until you run out of pre-printed.
