It would be nice if there were an Entry Template for Shipto's (Contacts) so that fields could default from the customer master, or pre-fill, or skipped.

A client mentioned today that they always want the Shipto salesperson field to stay blank (so that when entering a sales order the salesperson will default from the customer master), and they can't preventing that from happening right now.

That made me think that there are other fields which could have the same issue - territory, tax group, etc.

Just curious, but you know that on ShipTo records that if you leave the field blank, then this means read from the Customer Master, right? You only ever have to fill in fields on the ShipTo record if you want this to override the value on the Customer Master.

Are you saying that when they create a new ShipTo code, they are seeing values get filled in for the Salesperson, Territory or other fields? For me, this only happens for the Tax Group and Status, which get copied from the Customer Master. If this is the case, please confirm the behaviour that your client is seeting when they create a new ShipTo code, and also how they create these records (ie manually, import, on the fly in transaction entry, etc).

What's happening is that users are entering the wrong salesperson into a Shipto instead of leaving the field blank. Management wants to prevent users from visiting that field.
